Michalis Brouzos

Michalis Brouzos is one of the most inventive and influential guitarist-composers of his generation in Greece.

He began his guitar studies at the Conservatory of Piraeus (Peiraikos Syndesmos), where he obtained both his Degree and Diploma with the highest distinction, graduating “Unanimously Excellent with Unanimous Distinction,” in the class of Panagiotis Deligiannis.

At the same time, he pursued advanced theoretical studies under the conductor Andreas Karbone, earning degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue with the grade “Excellent.” He then studied Composition at the National Conservatory of Athens with the composer Konstantinos Grigoriou, obtaining his Diploma with the grade “Excellent and First Prize.

He has participated in masterclasses led by Roland Dyens and Joseph Urshalmi, and has studied musical interpretation with George Chatzinikos.

Since 1998, he has served as a Guitar and Advanced Music Theory Instructor at various institutions, including the Central National Conservatory of Athens, the Municipal Conservatory of Agios Dimitrios, and the Madrigal Music School of Corinth. He currently oversees the Classical Guitar Departments of the Pythagorean Conservatory.

He has performed many recitals as a soloist in Athens and other Greek cities as well as abroad (Germany, Poland, Cyprus, Philippines).

He has worked as an arranger and session musician on numerous recording projects for some of the most prominent record labels.

He composes music for classical guitar, string and wind ensembles, as well as for choral and symphonic formations.

As a founding member of AnimaCorda guitar duet he releases two albums, the homonym in 2005 (Soulincident records), and ¨Lost & found¨ in 2008 (Minos-Emi records).

In December 2010, AnimaCorda represent Greece in a concert that broadcasts worlwide via the European Broadcast Union (EBU).

In 2012, AnimaCorda, composes the soundtrack of the dramatic performance called “The shine” directed by Stefanos Papatrechas.

In May 2013 he recorded (with AnimaCorda) in the music academy of Katowice in Poland, the Concerto no2 for two guitars and symphonic orchestra composed by Odysseas Konstantinopoulos. Collaborated by the Orkiestra Kameralna Silesian Art Collective conducted by Mateusz Walach. The album named ¨Symbioza¨ was released in July of 2015.

In the Autumn of 2014 he released his first EP album named “Orison” dedicated to his daughter Anna.

In July 2016 he participated in the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the show was dedicated to the music of Nino Rota for the movies of Federico Fellini and was held at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus . The Athens State Orchestra was conducted by German conductor Frank Strobel.

In November of 2016 he released his second EP album named “Rootless”.

In 2016 he forms with bassist Petros Lamprides a group called “TheLastLust” and in September of 2017 they released their first homonym album.

In 2018 he forms “Michalis Brouzos quartet” (Thomas Kontogeorgis-piano, Catherine Tepelena-violin, Petros Lamprides-contrabass) and releases their first single named “grown”, a composition of his.

In 2019, the album Window with a View” was released, with lyrics by his own, music composed by Minas Bogris, and performed by Spyros Kleissas. It was published by Metronomos Editions.

In 2019 he forms “Michalis Brouzos trio” (Thomas Kontogeorgis-piano, Michalis Porfyris-violoncello).

The album “Hommage” (BLB records – 2021) is a tribute to his favorite tracks from the classical guitar repertoire and his fourth in a row personal record work.

In May 2022 he released his composition named “The Element suite” performed by the award winning “L’ Anima string quartet” (IRIDA music-2022).

The autumn of the same year was followed by the release of the trio's live album entitled "Mesi Yi (Live at Pithagorio amphitheater)” by the record company Jazz breeze records. The official presentation of the album took place in February 2023 at the Athens Concert Hall (ΜΜΑ).

In November 2024, the Michalis Brouzos trio in collaboration with the visual artist Yannis Brouzos (aka Oannes) presented the performance “Brotherhood” at the amphitheater of the B&E Goulandris Foundation, as part of the events entitled “Jazz at the Museum” under the artistic direction of Dimitris Tsakas.

In November 2025, the Michalis Brouzos Trio took part in the project “Listen to the Music” at the Maria Callas museum, presenting an educational performance held in the museum’s concert hall.
